Reflections

Relections is the National PTA-sponsored arts recognition and achievement program.  It's purpose is to provide a venue for students to create and be recognized for original works of art based on a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of arts in education.

This Year's Theme: "Beauty is"

Entries for this year’s Atholton High School Reflections Program are due to the AHS Front Office — in the Brightly Colored PTSA Box — by 3:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13.

Judging will commence immediately before the Thanksgiving holiday with the four (4) winning interpretations in each of the six (6) arts areas announced before holiday break.

REFLECTIONS is the National PTA-sponsored arts recognition and achievement program.  Its purpose is to provide a venue for students to create and be recognized for original works of art based on a pre-selected theme, while increasing community awareness on the importance of arts in education.

The National 2009-2010 Reflections Theme is “Beauty is” which can be interpreted in the areas of Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance, and Film/Video.

Winning entries go on to compete at the Howard County, Maryland State and National levels.  All students are recognized for their participation in Reflections, and all entries compete for national level recognition.  National Outstanding Interpretation (First Place) Award recipients receive:

  • An expense-paid trip for themselves and one adult to the National PTA Convention
  • A $800 arts education award from the National PTA
  • A gold-plated Reflections medallion
  • Additional sponsor-related awards

In addition:

  • A $200 arts education award is given to the student’s local PTA by the national PTA organization

Last year’s entries were very competitive, with AHS winning 3 of Howard County’s 24 Senior Awards. Go Raiders!
